  1. Anacortes Mercantile Company opens on 5th and Commercial (1904)

    After a long, challenging move, the Anacortes Mercantile opened for business at Commercial and 5th on this date in 1904. Originally located at 8th and I, the McNaught Building was purchased by Anacortes Mercantile’s owners and rolled over large logs to its new location over the course of a very long summer (it was stuck in the middle of a street for an extended time). It doesn't seem possible that there are no photos of this monumental move, yet none are currently known to exist. Today the building is known as the Majestic Inn & Spa.
