LIBRARY APPOINTMENTS NOW AVAILABLE APRIL 1st   

The Anacortes Public Library is excited to announce that we will be reopening to in-person visits for express browsing and computer use by appointment on April 1st. As we follow quickly changing state guidelines and get staffing in place, we'll start with available half hour appointments Thursday-Saturday from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, keeping our popular curbside delivery going Tuesdays from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. All programs will remain virtual.

Thursday – Saturday 12 pm – 3 pm  

 

Library Closed for all Services  

Sunday & Monday 

 

We will now be closed Sundays and Mondays to ensure we have enough staffing for both services the rest of the week. You can make an appointment starting March 22nd for our April 1st reopening by calling (360)293-1910.  

In accordance with state guidelines, social distancing and mask wearing will be required for entrance into the library. Seating and gathering will not be permitted, and all hands on activities and toys in the children’s department will be unavailable for the duration of the phased reopening to limit the spread of COVID-19. Passport appointments and the Friends of the Library Bookshop are not available at this time. 

Thank you for your continued support as we work to refill staff positions that were lost last year and get ready to open our doors and serve you in person as well as maintain curbside delivery. We look forward to seeing you all again very soon. 

In-Person Appointments can be made by calling the library at (360293-1910 starting March 22nd. 

 

Requests for curbside delivery of materials can be placed in our online catalog. See our website at library.cityofanacortes.org for detailed curbside pickup instructions or call the library Tuesdays 11am – 6pm, Wednesday – Saturday 11 am to 4 pm. 

 

No Donations 

Due to COVID-19, the library cannot accept any book or material donations at this time. Please save your used books for when the Friends of the Library Shop can safely reopen, or consider donating them to a Little Free Library in the meantime.

Get a peek at a local farm and get to meet some tiny lambs, tour the facility, and get your daily dose of baby animal cuddles with Nicole Fisher. 

 

SPECIAL MANIERI JAZZ PROGRAM—All Ages 

WordJazz Poetry Event 

Wednesday, April 14th 7:00 pm 

April is national poetry month, and our own Skagit River Poetry Foundation student poet laureates have teamed up with local musicians to create a one-of-a kind debut spoken poetry and music event in collaboration with Anacortes Public Library. In collaboration with the Manieri Jazz endowment, this original performance will air on YouTube and Facebook and be available on the websites of all partners. Join the library all month for special poetry themed Take and Makes for children and teens, and look for featured poetry books to check out in all departments. 

 

Deep Sea Volcanoes:  A Fiber-optic Look at Eruptions, Hot Springs & Life Forms

Humanities WA Presents: She Traveled Solo: Strong Women in the Early 20th Century 

Wednesday, April 21st 7:00 pm   

Live Zoom Event 

Using historical photographs, primary documents, and hand-drawn illustrations, artist & writer Tessa Hulls takes participants into the lives of intrepid female adventurers who lived through the turn of the 20th century—before the right to vote or the right to own property. In sharing these stories and her own, Hulls illuminates the power of history in today’s world and demonstrates why female role models are vital in affecting social change. Registration required. Celebrate Spring Break and National Library Week by participating in one of our virtual events. You can also check out a STEAM kit and ask about our Take & Make kits for youth of all ages.  

 

Be Creative with Ria: Make a Be Creative Box 

Tuesday, April 6th 11:00 am 

Virtual Program 

Spring is a perfect time to create this box.  People are cleaning out and even leaving awesome items in front of their houses with a FREE sign on them. Everyone gets busy and might not have time to help you gather everything you need for a project, so making a box with supplies already to go will save a lot of time. Your Be Creative Box will become your treasure chest.  The basic supplies and treasures you have collected will give you creative possibilities and hours of fun! 

Live Zoom Storytime & Drawing Class with Cheri 

Wednesday, April 7th 1:00 pm 

Cheri will read a funny story, “Randy, the Badly Drawn Horse” by T.L McBeth and share some tips for turning your doodles into drawings. Sign up on the Library website at library.cityofanacortes.org to get the Zoom link.  

 

Teen Manga Event

Live Zoom Event 

Find out what new Manga books the library has, give suggestions of what the library should buy next, and share your favorite reads and series. Grab a snack at the library curbside pickup after signing up so you can snack and share Manga recommendations with friends from the library. Registration required. Teen Hangout

Catch up on what’s new at the library, get book recommendations, and share your writing. Grab a snack bag with zoom instructions at curbside so you can snack and share ideas for upcoming library events, find out about volunteer opportunities, art workshops, and more. Visit library.cityofanacortes.org to sign up.   

 

Storytimes 

All storytimes are virtual. Visit facebook.com/AnacortesPublicLibrary to watch and comment along. Tune into past storytimes online 24/7. 

   

Mondays 

Preschool Storytime @ 6 pm   

Ms. Ria will share stories, songs and crafts. The theme changes each week and children always enjoy trying something new.  

   

Tuesdays 

Tuesday Tales @ 6 pm  

This evening storytime features a special guest every week! Fun for kids of all ages.  

   

Wednesdays 

Baby/Toddler Storytime @ 6pm  

Join Librarian Leslie for an awesome storytime full of great books, nursery rhymes, and even a song or two!  

   

Thursdays 

Pajama Storytime @ 6 pm  

Join Librarian Diana in your PJs for bedtime stories to get you ready for the weekend with some giggles and inspiring reads.  

   

Fridays 

Time for Tots @ 6pm  

Join Ms. Lisa for a storytime program promoting early literacy through stories, play, movement, music, and rhymes.  

    

Book Returns Open 24 hours a day, Monday-Saturday 

Monday 10 am through Saturday 4 pm book returns are open for your convenience.    

 

No Food Donations 

As always, no donations of food items or clothing are accepted at the library entrance on the Red Bag Pantry Shelf. If you wish to support this program please donate directly to A Simple Gesture so food can be safely sorted and checked per state guidelines. https://www.asimplegestureanacortes.org/
