[ARCHIVED] Press Release: M Avenue to partially close during paving project starting August 6

The city will start work paving M Avenue from Eighth Street to 27th Court as part of its ongoing asphalt preservation program on Monday, August 6.

The 2018 Asphalt Overlay Project will involve grinding existing pavement, placement of new asphalt, adjusting manholes and other utilities to grade, and pavement striping. Full construction is expected to begin with pavement grinding.

Some minor utility adjustment work may occur in the weeks preceding asphalt grinding.  Construction for this project is expected to take approximately a month with the major grinding and paving operations occurring during the first two weeks.

During construction there will be periods of no parking along the entire stretch of M Avenue from Eighth Street to 27th Court, and there will be intermittent short-term road closures with traffic detours to allow for the work.

During grinding and paving operations a complete closure of M Avenue from Eighth Street to 24nd Street, including crossing intersections, will be in place. Crossing of M Avenue will be maintained at all times at Eighth Street, 12th Street and 22nd Street.

Access to the 24th Street, 25th Street, 26th Street and 27th Street neighborhoods will be maintained with flagging traffic control.

The city thanks residents and visitors in advance for their patience and cooperation while it makes these needed improvements to the roadway.

For questions or concerns, contact project manager Tim Hohmann at (360) 588-8068.
