I’ve been hearing concern about the congestion at Sharpes Corner and getting some feedback that the intersection “isn’t working.”
I want to remind everyone that this area is still under construction - lanes remain closed and speed limits through the area remain 35 mph. Drivers should keep planning for congestion, especially during peak times. If possible, they should continue to:
- alter commutes
- work remotely
- consider public transportation
People driving, should avoid discretionary trips and leave plenty of extra time for essential travel. People cycling should use the Tommy Thompson Trail and/or Skagit County roads to avoid this construction area.
This week contractor crews from Tapani and its sub-contractors are working to prepare the additional lanes and outside areas of the intersection for traffic, install lighting, finish curbs and make sure all signage is in place.
Crews will do more grinding and paving work overnight tonight (and probably Wednesday night too) which will mean additional lane reductions and alternating traffic through this area.
Tapani expects to wrap up these lane closure and open this intersection as a two lane roundabout by the end of the month.
Let me know if you have any questions.
