Highway 20 Spur Paving
A couple more nights of paving work are needed finish the stretch between Commercial Avenue and the ferry terminal. Work could happen overnight 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sundays through Fridays but weather permitting, the paving on this section should wrap up next week.
Highway 20 Sharpes Corner Roundabouts
Crews are wrapping up bypass lane work and by Friday, May 25 they’ll have pulled crews and have as many lanes open as possible (there will still be reductions) for the long Memorial Day Weekend. The signal will be taken down and lane reduction routes will change on approximately Wednesday May 30. More info on this schedule and Memorial Day Weekend next week.
Opinions wanted: Ferries Long-Range Plan
Our team at Washington State Ferries is working to gather feedback to help shape the future of the ferry system for the next 20 years. Whether you’re a daily, weekly or once-a-year ferry customer you should consider participating and sharing your thoughts. The team has an online open house available until next Thursday, May 24 for anyone who wants to take part.
Bike to work day: Friday, May 18
Or what Cascade Bicycle Club has dubbed Bike Everywhere Day, is tomorrow and I might give it a shot (though since I’m a rookie cyclist and my RT commute is 32 miles, I’m considering a bus/bike combination). Whether it is for your health, to save gas, to avoid construction or give you something to post on social media – give it a shot if you can!. We’ve got information online about the month of events, safety tips and area bike maps. There are national resources available as well in case you have to pump yourself up for it a little bit more. If you do get the bicycle on the road tomorrow (or anytime) share a pic on social media with #WSDOTactive. We’d love to see you out there!

Cycling through Sharpes Corner
While these cyclists, who our inspector John says are on their way to Mexico, cruised through the #SharpesCorner work zone and new SR 20 Miller/Gibralter roundabout yesterday I’d suggest a county road detour to any other cyclists headed toward Whidbey Island as lanes through the construction zone are quite narrow. Anyone headed to or from Anacortes should stick to US Bike Route 10 which takes you down March’s Point Road (city of Anacortes just widened these shoulders) and over the Tommy Thompson trail during the rest of this roundabout work. If you are cycling through a roundabout - either use it the same way you would if driving (yield to those in the roundabout) or walk it through as a pedestrian (drivers yield to those crossing).
