Get out the Vote (1959)
Thursday, September 21, 2023
After a series of floods hit Anacortes in the late 1950's, Wallie Funk decided that he'd had enough. Living in a town without storm drains was presenting both a financial and safety problem for residents. In 1956 and 1959, Funk took two sets of photographs of the fallout of the floods. These photos ran today in order to force the issue into the towns political agenda. Two days later on September 23rd, the newspaper reported that 89% of the town was in favor of implementing storm drains. Wallie's work has kept us safe from large scale flooding ever since.
