Luvera's Grocery opens (1922)

Paul Luvera started his iconic grocery on this day in 1922. Luvera had arrived in town four years earlier in 1918, living in Italy and Canada before settling in Anacortes. Paul worked in the store with his father Nicola until 1956 when Nicola passed away. Paul retired just a year later. Paul and Nicola are now immortalized on 7th Street in a mural by Bill Mitchell.
