Ongoing Projects:
Commercial Avenue Complete Street
The Commercial Avenue Complete Street project will implement multi-modal improvements in a two-block area along Commercial Avenue, from 11th Street to 13th Street. The project is part of the South Commercial Avenue Corridor Plan, which assessed streetscape alternatives between 35th Street and 11th Street. The corridor concept advances a "complete street" that will safely accommodate vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
R Avenue Long Term Improvements - Phases 3, 5
The R Avenue Long Term Improvements Project, Phases 3 and 5, will add improvements to the R Avenue corridor to enhance safety and multi-modal access.
Wastewater Outfall Relocation
The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Outfall Relocation project will install a new WWTP outfall made of a 48-inch diameter high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe.

2023 Chip Seal Project

2023 Asphalt Overlay Project

Hillcrest Sidewalk Project (2023)
The project will provide approximately 940-feet of new sidewalk and will include traffic curb and gutter, new sidewalk ramps, and a little storm drainage work.
32nd Street & M Avenue Intersection Improvements (2022)
Traffic and safety improvements at the 32nd Street and M Avenue intersection include a roundabout, rapid flashing beacons at pedestrian crossings and lane width reductions. The anticipated results will be traffic calming, collision reduction and improved traffic flow. This project was completed in summer 2022.
2022 Cape Seal Project
The City of Anacortes Public Works Department will continue its annual plan to cape seal streets with this year's work encompassing approximately 1 mile on 37th Street, Whistle Lake Road and O Avenue.
2021 Slurry Seal Project
The City of Anacortes Public Works Department will continue its annual plan to slurry seal neighborhood streets with this year's work encompassing 4.19 miles near 41st Street from A to N Avenue.
Water Treatment Plant Clearwell and Raw Waterline
Construction on a second clearwell and raw waterline to bring water from the intake station on the west side of Skagit River to the Water Treatment Plant on the east side began in June 2020. The projects were completed in summer 2021.
2020 Slurry Seal
The 2020 Slurry Seal project began in July primarily around D Avenue in the city center.
2020 Ship Harbor Boulevard Roundabout
The 2020 Ship Harbor Boulevard Roundabout project began in March and was completed in May.
2017 Large Transport Corridor
City of Anacortes Engineers made transporting large vessels and equipment through the Q/R Avenue corridor easier in 2017 by installing swivel bases on traffic light signals
