The Anacortes Police Department is currently hiring Police Officers to fill two vacancies.

Minimal Qualification

In order to minimally qualify to be an Anacortes Police Officer, you must be at least 21 years of age, have an Associates Degree, have a valid driver's license, and have a commitment to the core values of the Department. Lateral applicants may be considered with related experience in lieu of education. 

Hiring Process

The Anacortes Police Department has a rigorous and thorough hiring process to ensure that the best candidates are hired.

The Anacortes Police Department hiring process consists of the following:

  • A written test
  • A physical agility test
  • An oral board interview
  • A thorough background investigation
  • A polygraph examination
  • A psychological examination
  • A medical evaluation

Additionally, applicants must successfully perform the physical agility test once more shortly before acceptance to the police academy.

Training

After being hired as a City of Anacortes Police Officer, the applicant must attend and successfully complete the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) Basic Law Enforcement Academy in Burien, WA, which is over five months in length. Following completion of the academy, the new Officer spends at least three months in the Department's field training program, during which he or she receives hands-on training in law enforcement from experienced Officers.
