All ages are welcome to join us for Summer Reading activities this year! Summer Reading starts June 21st. There are Oceans of Possibilities to explore, discover, dive into, and enjoy!

Dates to remember:

June 21st – Summer Reading begins

July 20th – Halfway prizes available

August 1st – Prize Books available

September 7th – Grand Prize drawing

How to participate

Log your reading throughout the summer. When you are halfway through, visit us to claim your halfway prize starting July 20th. When you reach your reading goal, visit us for your free prize book and enter to win our grand prize drawing sponsored by Island Optometry Clinic. Prize books are available through the month of August. Play the bonus bingo sheet for more chances to win. 


This year we are using Beanstack, a fun and easy way to track your reading progress online. Everyone who participates will earn badges and be entered to win some great reading-themed prizes! We’ll also have paper reading logs for those who don’t want to participate online.

  • Summer Reading Kickoff - SaturdayJune 25th @ 10:00 am at Washington Park - Come explore the beach at Washington Park with our friends from the Salish Sea School! Learn about our ocean and how we can help take care of the creatures in it.

Teen Programs

(Teen events are open to all 6th-12th year teens. Dates and times for some events are TBD).

Teens get a free swag bag of summer reading goodies for signing up this year! Explore oceans of possibilities with crafts, info on local volunteering & classes, snacks, and more. Join us for weekly programs exploring our local waterfront both in and outside the library this July. Sign up for our teen newsletter to find out what’s happening first.  

  • Teen Summer Kick-Off 

    Wednesday, June 29th 3:00 – 4:30 pm 

    Causland Park (Library if weather is uncooperative). 

    Join us for improv and lawn games, snacks, and fun in the park with the library. Find out about all the programs and events and sign up for summer reading activities and other reading projects. Get your swag bag and more! If weather is soggy, we’ll meet at the library. Sign up online to reserve your summer reading swag bag. 

  • Beach Cleanup with the Salish Sea School 

    July 5th 4:00-5:00 pm @ Seafarer's Memorial Park 

    Join us along with the Salish Sea School and the Anacortes High School Green Club to clean up the beach after holiday celebrations. Trash often gets left behind after the holiday and we can help clean it up to keep our ocean clean.  

  • Salish Sea Orca Workshop 

    July 6th 4:00-5:30 pm @ Anacortes Public Library 

    Learn about Orcas in our local oceans and eat some snacks, learn about more library programs, and find out more about how you can take care of our sea creatures.  

  • Craft & Chill 
    July 13th 4:00-5:30 pm @ Anacortes Public Library 
    Join us for pizza, snacks, and creativity with supplies found and sourced to create a beach themed art piece. Make a mermaid crown, paint a seashell and more.

  • Explore the W.T. Preston 
    July 20th 4:00-5:30pm @ Maritime Heritage Center, 703 R Ave 
    Meet us at the W.T. Preston for an adventure on the boat including snacks, an audio tour with the museum staff and more.

  • Beach Party: Summer Wrap-Up 
    July 27th 4:00-5:30 pm @ Washington Park 
    Meet at Washington Park for a scavenger hunt at the beach and s’mores to celebrate the end of summer reading. We’ll have prizes and snacks as well.
